Recently there has been a lot of discussion and debate on Data and AI in medical research. Imperial College have produce an excellent guide to support PPI groups and to enable us to navigate this new world. New Chair

At our AGM in August 2024 we elected Dave Chuter as the new chair of ICPV. We also elected two new trustees - Hilary Stobart and Shaun Hill.

Our past Chair, Adrienne Morgan, will remain a trustee and has also been elected President.

Summer School 2024, University of Sussex

Once again we were generously hosted by Lesley Fallowfield and SHORE-C for two days of stimulating presentations and discussions on topics which ranged from digital consent and robots to does stress cause cancer.

We had a mix of ICPV members plus repesentatives from Make2ndsCount, Fight Bladder Cancer UK and Strive for Five

ABS COnference, Bournemouth May 2024

ICPV members attended this years event promoting the work we do and interacting with the surgical community.

Benefits and Risks of Breast Cancer Treatments: Patient Representation

ICPV members discuss their involvement with the Early Breast Cancer Trialists Collaborative Group (EBCTCG). The key paper from the research was awarded ‘The BMJ UK Research Paper of the Year 2023’. Click here to listen and to check out the work of the team.

2024 UK Interdisciplinary Breast Cancer Symposium

On 22-23 Jan ICPV members and other patient advocates attended the UKIBCS

Our very own Lesley Stephen gave the opening address and others were involved in co-chairing plenary and parallel sessions. It was a truly interdisciplinary event.

Let's Talk About Sex

More is now known about the long-term effects of some breast cancer treatments. ICPV carried out a survey of patients and health professionals which clearly highlighted the issues

KORTUC Trial

Recently Mairead MacKenzie joined the KORTUC Trial team on site visits in India looking at the possiblilty of developing PPI activities.

Breast Cancer Mortality

ICPV members Hilary Stobart and Mairead Mackenzie have been involved with Carolyn Taylor and the team at the Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford, Oxford, UK for some time.

A key paper looking at breast cancer mortality has been published which shows that more than 90% of women diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer will survive the disease for 5 years or more.
