The Psycho-Social Aspects of Living with Cancer ICPV Brighton Summer School, 20-21st August 2019
Once again the ICPV Summer School was hosted by Dame Prof Lesley Fallowfield and the SHORE-C Team at the University of Sussex.
The theme was around supportive interventions, specifically looking a living with cancer and how to deal with the anxiety that comes with a diagnosis.
The workshop was dedicated to the memory of Elizabeth Benns, valued ICPV member until her death in July 2018.
Elizabeth was originally a reluctant member of ICPV having been ‘Maggied’ at a Breast Cancer Care meeting. As we all know however she became a valued member and was involved in some key projects.
Elizabeth was an enormous help in the growth and development of the Charity e.g. in organising the complex registration required for Patient & Public Involvement in European Commission funded
trials. Her determination and interest meant that she was still a very active patient advocate even in the last weeks - promoting cancer research on BBC television. Her "common sense" approach to
problems is something we should all aspire to.
